I noticed that Duke's MBA program was ranked 11th in the nation. I never thought of Duke as a top tier school. I also noticed Yale and Cornell (both Ivy League schools) were ranked below Duke (15 and 17; I think).

There are some non-"Ivy League" schools (Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania, Brown, Columbia, Princeton) that have just as stellar reputations and are considered "just as good." These include Duke University, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), California Institute of Technology (CalTech), University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Pomona College, Vanderbilt University, and Swarthmore College. They're are also a few more that are just slipping my mind at the moment. And for certain fields, some schools are better than the Ivies (i.e. music at Oberlin is much better than music at Harvard).

And Duke Fuquay School of Business is nationally-renown and, as long as you get decent grades, you'll have employers ready to nab you for their firms. Their medical school is usually considered one of the best in the nation, too (even though they have a rather frightening record of fatal mistakes).

If you never thought of Duke as a top tier school you are clearly decades out of date when it comes to understanding what is regarded as "top tier". Duke has been ranked in the top ten of American universities for many years and (with Stanford) is one of two schools ever to have been ranked above one of the top 3 Ivies. Duke is routinely ranked higher than several of the 2nd level Ivies such as Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth and Columbia.

There are some other schools that are also challenging the Ivies for top spots in the rankings, i.e. Emory, Washington University, Chicago, etc.

Check either the US News rankings, the Princeton Review rankings, or the rankings of the 100 best International Universities for confirmation.

Yes, Duke's rankings are very high for their MBA program. Yale traditionally does not have a great business school and neither does Cornell. If you go to Duke and wish to stay in NC you will be set when it comes time for a job!

Universities, including ivy league schools aren't always fantastic at everything. Most build great programs in a few areas and not others. The Fuqua School at Duke is a great business school. Great programs can pop up in unexpected places. The Sloan School at MIT, for instance, has a highly ranked MBA program at a school that is mostly known for science and engineering.

it truly is no longer rather influential re: your ability to get right into a accurate-tier MBA software. Do the second one significant in case you experience it would want to benefit you personally, or on your occupation as an funding banker, yet do not do it basically because you imagine it will help you get right into a accurate MBA software. It is basically no longer fabric to their decision.
