I am going thru something similiar right now and I think that the best thing you can do is to give him his space. But in doing that when you do have communication with him reassure him that you love him but don't try to make him feel guilty or make him make a decision right now as to if you will end up back together. I am not sure what the situation was that broke you up but it sounds like he really needs some time. Hope it works out for you!

well, I can relate to this. I spent alot of my younger life suffering from anxiety and panic disorder and I can tell you from experience, There is not to many other things in life that you will face more difficult than those panic attacks.
I hate to say this but it is likely it will be a while before he is capable of looking at anything that was bad in a different lite. You see, anxiety disorder is a imbalance in the brain that if not treated causes an even worse disorder known as agoraphobia. Its sounding like he is at the edge of this.
I myself found help in a few good things.1) I had been given the proper meds from a therapist. The best one for this was called,Clonapin. Or generic version clonazapam. This drug helped to aleviate some of them roller coaster affects of axiety and helped calm my nerves.2) cognative therapy from a good therapist. This helped me to reverse the negative thinking and look more possitive at my past and future.
There is a good resource for him to look into that helped me drastically. This help is also a former person who delt with anxiety as badly if not worse than I did that became healed and now runs the Center for stress and anxiety. Her name is Lucinda Basset. She has these audio tapes and video's that help to teach you how to deal with and get passed the destructiveness of anxiety and how to come out of it stronger and more possitive about life than you ever would believe.
You should be able to look her up and her center on the internet. For now, If you truly love and care for him,all you can do is see to it that he gets these tapes and any info you can give him on cognative therapy.Cause until he feels like he knows how to control it himself, they will continue to get the best of him.Just try to be there for him but dont be pushy.Anxiety sufferers usually lean on very few people but seem to all choose one or two people they feel they can trust that give them comfort without expectations or push them in any way.Find a way to get to that point with him and if you help him through it you will have a strong loving man who would walk off the earth for you.Good luck!

Remember that you split up for a reason. Maybe you should get some counseling also and give him a chance to sort it out.

"If you love him let him go, if he comes back he's yours, if he doesn't he never was".
It's not easy to let go but that's the only way to not chase him away further.
