I'm having to choose university courses and i haven't got a clue what path to take. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what I could do. I am doing Art, English Lit, Maths and Biology A levels. Art is my main love, but I would say that i was a very academic person. The main priority is that it is fulfiling. I've looked into conventional career paths, but nothing really grabs my attention. Please can you help me. Maybe you have the best job in the world and would like to recomend it.
Thankyou.

I was in exactly the same position! I would call myself more academic, but always loved art! Jobs in the creative industries are very competitive, and depending on what you study, there is a large chance you'll end up working freelance. Saying that, however, I couldn't imagine doing anything other than what I enjoy!

If you're having a hard choice deciding, you could always do an Art & Design Foundation studies course (most universities will want you to have done it anyway if you're applying to an art-based degree course) -which will help you decide on an area of art/design you like -or see if it's not your thing at all for degree-level.

Just remember you may want to check about getting references at your school/college from your current teachers if you're thinking of not doing an arts-based course later on (it might be tricky asking them a year later!)

I'm doing my degree now, and I definitely find it challenging (mostly in a good way ;) ) -and you will still probably have to write essays on whatever course you choose, so I think being academic is always a bonus!

You best following what you really enjoy because trust university is hard, and boring if you choose the degree your heart isn't in.
If your really stuck you probably best going onto the prospects website where you can take a personality test which will you show you which career would be best for you, and show you the qualifications you would need to get there.
I would have a long think about which course you pick as if you choose the wrong one it wont just be a waste of time but money too. Have a word with connexions career advisers, teachers and look at the university website you wish to study at as it will show you the module of each course (if under 19). Best of all try as many open days at your chosen universities as you can you can talk to the lecturers and they will advise you, if it's for you. Your best talking to people who have been to university as i found people who hadn't are pretty useless in helping you decide.
Remember so called mickey mouse careers may not allow you to become a doctor or a lawyer but may lead you to a managerial position. You don't have to have a degree in business to become a manager as long as you have a good degree such as a 2:1 there will be hundreds of possible careers for you.

Please please do something you enjoy, but that is also vocational

So many students do history, art, geography and then just end up being teachers, which isn't a bad thing, but they usually have grander ideas

I would do Graphic Design - endless possibilities and guaranteed career path - the world is crying out for designers

I would suggest Art.
Your career is going to take approx 60% of your life. It is far better to take less wages and enjoy your employment than to be 'rolling in lolly' and thinking "Oh H..l I have to go to work today!!"

Good luck in your life and chosen career.
