it won't acknowledge the usb stick at all. I went into device manager and there is no universal series port tab there. What does this mean?
(ps I have tried the usb stick on a laptop and it worked fine, but the computer won't read any usb devices)

As some people have said it could be that the USB port drivers are not installed or that plug and play is disabled. Is it a computer which has been upgraded to Windows XP from another OS? If the motherboard is too old it cannot support USB ports (even though they are there!) and you will never get it to work. Do other things work in the USB ports?

What operating system are you running?

Windows 98 typically does not read USB sticks until Windows 98 SE at which time limited support was added.

the computer could simply have the feature "pluge-n-play" disabled. this is usally whats the problem is. in order to enable pluge and play you need to enter set up on your computer before it boots all the way up ( meaning before it even shows the windows loading screen) also if your using a mac computer then this could be why as mac computer suck and should not even be computers.

hope this answers your question
