Yes...
and have lots of room to spare.

You have 5280 feet in a mile.
You take that and times width by the length. Or 5280 * 5280 and you have a base of 27,878,400 square feet. Now you take 5280 and divide it by say 6. (giving an average height to each person of 6ft. I know that is way off but just for arguments sake.) That will give you 880. Now take 880 * 5280 * 5280 and you come up with 24,532,992,000 6ft people that can fit into a box 1mile X 1mile X 1mile. Which is roughly 4 times as many people as we have on our puny lil planet.
Great question by the way!

Oh and dwobbit.... You missed a 0 moron. hahaha Add another 0 to the end of your lil number and you will have the actual correct #. hahaha Nice try though

And nospamcwt...
HE SAID CUBIC MILE, NOT SQUARE MILE. CAN'T YOU READ?....
Good job son. It takes a brave lil trooper to go back and admit when he is wrong. Don't worry about it, we all make mistakes. The important thing is you corrected it. Keep up the good work.

SteveT... Yeah you are more realistic in your given space for each person. But that still gives us twice the room that we need. Can you believe some of these peoples ignorance? And the funny thing is they are insulting. Thinking that they are correct!!! Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Well, let's do a little calculation and see.

On average how tall, wide and thick do you think people are. Let's say that on average people are 6ft tall, 3ft wide and 2ft thick. Sure, lost of people are taller, or wider or thicker, and lots of people are shorter and thinner, but let's just aim for an average. You can change these numbers if you feel mine are to far off.

So, what is this average person's volume? 6ft x 3ft x2ft = 36 cubic feet (36 cuft). Now, how many cubic feet are there is a cubic mile? Well, a mile 5,280 feet, so a cubic mile = (5,280)^3 which is 147,197,952,000 cuft. So, how many people who have a volume of 36 cuft can we fit into a box with 147,197,952,000 cuft? Well, that's just (147,197,952,000 / 36) = 4,088,832,000 or little over 4 billion. Now the population of the planet is over 6 billion, so there is NOT enough room, if you accept my "average person."

You may say, well, there are lots of children so the average person is really only 3ft tall. OK. I'll let you do the math but it leads to room for a little over 8 billion people. So a cubic mile is enough.

Now then, what do you think the volume of the average person really is?

Yes. Twice the world's population would fit into that space - though it would be very hard to get them there.

A cubic mile is 147,197,952,000 cubic feet.

Assuming the average person could be fitted into a space of 12 cubic feet (6 foot by 2 foot by one foot), you can fit 12,266,496,000 people in there.

That's about twice the world population per the site below.

PS All of them except the very top layer would be dead pretty soon

USMCstingray's answer is good, but ignores the fact that people have width and breadth as well as height. Dwobbit has left out a decimal place.

Charles_N_Johnson's calculations are correct given his assumptions. However, he has forgotten the squashing effect of levels upon levels of humanity packed in like sardines. The very bottom level would be squashed almost flat!

If you assume that each person is 5 feet tall, 2 feet wide and 1 foot thick you could fit 1,471,979,520 in a box 1mi x 1mi x 1mi...That is about one-fourth of the earth's population...

So, no, you could not.

If each person gets 3 square feet, you need 646 floors with a height of 8.18 feet on center! It may be possible to build a structure that large, but it isn't likely to happen.

Not unless you expect everyone to be elbow to elbow! But, even then, 6.6 billion people wouldn't fit in that square area.
