I dont think there is any reasoning behind it, but I love it! I am happy that homosexuals are being shown as normal people. Perhaps the effeminate nephew, who is not nec. gay, is to remind us that homosexuals are people and were even once children. I have seen so many people treated as if they were aliens that just hatched and dare to walk among us humans just because theyre gay. I have to wonder why people are so offended by this. If you dont like gay people, maybe you should ask youself why, and remind youself that they are just like everyone else, human beings!

Why should there be any reasoning at all? I have multiple gay friends and family members so why shouldn't she? I have never watched the show but I thought Betty was supposed to be just an average, everyday person?

Had no idea that there was a rule or that you needed a reason behind more than one of any type of character. Should there only be one hispanic person, one white person, one black person, one kid, one pet and one woman?

Its a show about the fashion industry. If you ask me, there are not enough gay characters on a show about working for a fashion magazine. Sometimes in that industry, straight people are in the minority.

It really makes no differance to me what a persons sexual prefrance is, but for some strange reason GAY is being shoved down our throats on prime time tv. It's gotten to be a little to much.

The only reason I could think of is that they're trying to portray an accurate representation of real life.

It is a magazine about the fashion industry. If it were longshoremen I might not expect to see homosexuals.
