My 9 week old son has suddenly started snorting since yesterday, both when he is asleep as well as when he is awake. It appears like he has some amount of difficulty in breathing. His voice hasn't changed, so we know it's not sore throat, or something else to do with the throat. Would you know what this could be? Does this sound similar to something you experienced with your kid? What did you do for your kid when this happened to him/her?

If he has difficult breathing, he could be congested. You might try some baby nose drops and see if that makes him more comfortable. If it's not a comfort issue...it could just be him trying different sounds. My daughter used to growl when she was learning to talk. Good luck.

I would ask your pediatrician. My youngest (of 3 children) son did this as well, it turns out he had a condition that has to do with the vocal chords being "floppy". His snort was on the inhale, and he seriously sounded like a little hedgehog or something. He is 2 now and he has outgrown it...but his ENT doc. told me that reflux (even mild baby spitting up) and crying made it worse or aggravated it. There isn't anything that can be done with such a young one. Watch his chest when he is breathing, if he seems to have to suck in really hard to take a breath where his diaphragm looks like it goes WAY in, then I would get him in sooner. But if the only thing going on is the snorting, I'd wait until his next Dr. visit and bring it up to your Pediatrician to ease your mind! Good luck!

his nose could be stopped up. take him to see his pediatrician. they'll prescribe you with some saline (saltwater) drops to loosen the blockage.
