The rules for cheating came from the Bible which came from the Torah. The rules included in the Torah most likely came from previous civilizations.
The rule is quite simple. Once two people, traditionally a man and a woman, are in a committed relationship neither one is to have any type of intimate relations with another person.
While it is ok to give someone a friendly kiss and/or hug, there should be no further intimate contact with other individuals.
Take care,
Troy

You should establish that with your significant other. Some people have different ideas of cheating. Some people will get hurt by things like talking to someone else online or on the phone and some people won't mind if you sleep with someone else, as long as there is no relationship between you and that person. It's a personal thing, everyone is different. Everyone has a different idea.

It is not cheating as defined in the Cheaters Almanac, unless you and 3 other people witness the act and it involves 2 spoons, a squirrel and the cap off a pepsi bottle

If the other person in a relationship does something sexual in nature with the opposite sex and it makes the other person in the relationship uncomfortable, then its cheating. You are right, rules have to be set. When my husband and I go out, my friends are all kissy when they drink, so I dont care if they kiss him. To me, Thats not cheating. To me, cheating would be him going behind my back and doing something with someone else.

some say that even thinking about it is cheating in your heart, some say any physical affection is cheating, and some say only intercourse is cheating. You and your significant other need to discuss what it means before you cross any lines.
