There are many treking routes in Masjet ghats..most enjoyable are...Harishchandra garh, Kalsubai peak , Haji malang talang...

it is advisable to join a group ...many youth hostels associations are there...so are many clubs....

they know the route and you also get the company...

Agiyalgad Parbath, near Panvel

There are lot of mountains for trekking near Khopoli. Khopoli is about 130 kms from Mumbai. There are local trains.

A trek to Matheran from Neral station on the central suburbs or try going to Tungareshwar ahead of Virar on the western railway line.

You can catch a local train from Dadar or V T going to Karjet or Khopoli and get down at NERAL .From here you trek to MATHERAN.

National Park at Borivali, visit the Kanheri caves. It is a long walk but within the Park itself.
