Hmm.. It doesn't hurt to actually let it run overnight once then awhile. Mac OS X is built around Unix, a system that is (SOFTWARE wise not hardware wise) designed to continiously run. During the other night run it runs certain scripts to clean out caches and such.

Or you can run those same scripts manually using OnyX. So best to turn it off for the night. Don't want to overheat and put unessary wear on the hardware. Save on power too.

I put mine to sleep via the Apple menu rather than just closing the lid of my PB G4. I also use Onyx to run the maintenance scripts since they only run at night while Macs are on. They won't run while in sleep mode. It won't hurt to continuously run your Mac for a week or two, maybe more. Just reboot it once in awhile.
