Does one spray solution on newspaper or spray solution on the window? Does cleaning work better with a moist newspaper or completely dry?

Sherlock,
The secret to having streak free windows is to get all the grease, dust, and dirt off the glass. Wow! Seems like a "no brainer" but there you have it.

The best way I know to do it is to get a bowl of water with a few drops of dish soap or something else to cut the film that seems to build up. Use one cloth to wash. Wipe down the window until it is clean. Depending on the amount of dirt this may take several times, rinsing the cloth out often.

After the dirt is off, it is simple to remove the water with a squeegee, newspaper, or whatever you choose.

If you just spray stuff on, it just smears the dirt around.

Good luck!

I doubt there is a "correct" way to clean a window. Everyone does it differently. I use a very warm cotton rag, on a warm day without the windshield getting direct sunlight. I wash the window with the cotton cloth, then dry it with a dry cotton cloth and go behind that with so windex and paper towels. My Husband says it is the cleanest window he has ever seen, without any streaks. What works for one may not work for someone else but I have found this works for me by getting all the dirt off the windshield before using the windex. I do go behind the paper towels with a clean dry cotton cloth and sort of polish the glass after the windex is applied and dried with the paper towels. I do not use newspaper because of the ink on the paper. A solution of baby shampoo with warm water works very well instead of the windex too. Coffee filters work well in place of paper towels too.

You can get a steam/vacuum cleaner from coles or woolworths for $30 a hire. You can use that to clean all your seats/carpets quite well with it. Do it at least once a year.

To avoid those streaks, use any window cleaner, HOWEVER, use regular newspaper (not the colored ads) to wipe it away. They clean the best and leave no streaks!!!

Use the Windex wipes. It's easier and less messy.

Otherwise, just do it however it works for you.

On the paper is better because it does not drip.
