Don't play stupid, but apologize and DON'T do it again.
If your finances are so tight that this kind of thing can make a difference, be in constant communication about how much is available.
An alternative is to take it out in cash so you can't spend it unless you have it.

If you have online banking and can do a quick transfer, I'd do that. If not, this is a good time to call the bank and sign up.
As for when the hubby gets home, apologize, make him a nice dinner, explain that it was an oversight and not intentional and then explain that it will never happen again.
If he's really hard on you, you may want to "remind" him of a mistake he made recently that inconvenienced you...merely, pointing out that we're all human and these things happen.
Don't fret too much. There are plenty larger problems in life!

If he has a cell phone, call it. If not, call him at his job. Just let him know what happened and that he shouldn't use the card for a while.
Trust me, it's better for him not to risk over-drawing the account. That can get expensive really fast and can even impact your credit rating if you make a habit of it.
To prevent this problem in the future, the two of you should work on the finances together. Every month, my wife and I sit down over our receipts and bills and we balance our checkbooks and write our checks. That way, we always know exactly where we stand for the month, how we did last month, and how careful we should be with our checks and cards.
Yeah, it's a little tedious to do, but it can save you a lot of grief -- including situations like the one you're in right now.

OK,I know what it feels like to spend money and not tell you hubby. My hubby is very anal about our money. You just have to tell him.He might get mad at you or may even yell but in the end he'll get over it. But next time you go out and spend all the money in the bank talk to him first.

dont worry just let him know that you were on your way to buy something for him but you were so hungry that you spent that money on buying something to eat for yourself. this is not to a very serious lie and should help if you are really so much worried. i'm sure your hubby will understand later if you tell him what actually happened once he cools down :)

Tell him. He will find out sooner or later. Get some money in your bank asap. Overdraft fees may make him madder that not telling him.

Nothing you can do if you can't call him to warn him. Guess you just have to face the music when he comes home or calls you..Good luck!

He's going to know when he can't get anything to eat. It would be nice to let him know ahead of time, so that he doesn't get embarassed.
