I'm really into bowling, and am actually pretty good. I carry about a 188 average, and have shot 260 plus twice in the last 3 weeks. I'm thinking about getting a lesson to improve my consistency, and raise my average, but I don't know if it would help much at my level. I am convinced that I have the ability to carry a 200+, but I haven't been able to get there yet.

Follow this rule "always".....they say that you can't teach a old dog new tricks.....that is B.S......you should always be receptive to new ways to improve your game...often times someone else will be able to study your game and pick on some elementary mistake......for example, does your sliding foot finish perpendicular to the foul line?.....bet you'll think about it now if you had not.....there is a big difference in a 188 bowler and a "scratch" bowler......"consistency"......also a 188 bowler only misses once a game and can get it back with a "double".......a scratch bowler has to get a "turkey" to get back his miss....this alone is "big".....do you really think you can get there with no lessons....get some lessons.....you'll only be out a few bucks but will get it back later......get someone that can picture the lesson in your mind and then just practice......when you practice, anyone can throw strikes.....get the full use of the money that you have to spend practicing.....throw the first ball at the 10 pin to practice that shot and the second try to strike.....then the 7 and then the strike.....this way you get 20 plus rolls(throws) in a game.....always check out the local "good" house bowlers.....where do the bowl (line)......never watch your opponent bowl in a one to one match....his "lucky" rolls will drive you crazy and his bad habits might rub of on you......the lane is 60 inches wide.....you need one inch of luck (touch the head pin) and then you need 60" of luck.......how much do you know about the game?.....how far is the 5 pin from the headpin?......study the game .....in and out....the answer to the question will make you think the next time you leave a 5-7 split or just the 5 pin!!

get some lessons ....because at this point in bowling you need some one that knows how to play the lane conidtions...different hand positions..what to do when the lanes are moving or when the lanes are very slick ..yes you do have that capability...i have been at or above 200 for the most part for the past 15 years..what you really need to learn is how to read the lanes quicker and adjust to the conditions that are on your pair of lanes...and not missing the single pin spares..also when you find out why you are leaving the 4 pin or the 6 pin or any other single pin spares you will get more strikes and hope you can string them together in one game....twice this week i had the first 6 the first time was a solid 10..othewise i would of had a 299 game i left another solid 10 on the last ball instead i had a 266..and on sat the ball drifted just inside my mark and left a big split..adjusted the next freame but the ball came back late and only got 7 other wise i would of had another 260 game instead i had a 256

I carry a 210 average and I coach a High School bowling team. I would deffintley advise you to get lessons if there are any available. Different people will be able to improve little things in your game a lot. In my oppinion, to jump over the 200 mark, Just remeber to ALWAYS PICK YOUR SPARES and stay consistent in your approach. Also, there is a book out there called "Bowling 200+" I read the book and it helped me out a lot. I would suggest that you read it.

Bowling lessons really improves your game, however, you have to find an instructor who bowls a lot better than you. Since your average is quite good, this might be difficult to find someone who bowls easily over 200 each time on the lane. Ask around you might find one.
