Let's not generalize. After all who's in history are only those who did just that - made history. Who knows how many obscure mediocre musicians existed then? Besides, music is more than writing songs, vocal prowess, or musical skills. Music is about fun, culture, business, politics, character - just about anything. You don't look for vocal prowess in Los del Rio's Macarena.
