Life on Mars is an open question in science. There is evidence from a Martian meteor of micron sized structures that look a lot like fossils of primitive algae colonies from earth. There is debate as to whether the structures are biological or geological in origin. The question will likely be settled as evidence from more samples becomes available. On earth, bacteria can survive deep underground for tens of millions of years. If the conditions on Mars were once more favorable for life there is a possibility that some bacteria persist in the Martian soil or rock.

No, Scientists have not seen any indication that life exists there. One of the reasons for this is because water is needed for life to exist, the atmospheric pressure in mars is very high (I think ten times that of the pressure on earth) so water wouln't last on mars since it would boil even at the lowest temperatures.
