Unfortunately, with modern cars, the darn computer system comes into play, so it's not just a "simple" motor swap anymore. You've got a 2-year difference, the distributor in the 89 could be different enough from the 91 that the computer is not getting the timing right. Most timing is done by computer, no matter if you spin the distributor or not, due to a crank sensor on the big harmonic balancer on the front of the engine. If that is different than the other engine, it may be sensing the spark too early or late. You may need to contact a dealer mechanic about this issue. Also it could be the computer may need some sort of "reset", due to a motor change / sensor change. Again, I don't know much about the Honda's specifically, but I do know old cars, and with modern ones, you may need some help with the final dial-in to get the motor running properly. Obviously it ran before removing it, so it may just be a "simple" (ha!ha!) computer adjustment. Good luck, - The Gremlin Guy -

You let a mechanic under the hood of your car? Always start with your spark plugs when your motor is running rough. Look for the dirty oil fouled ones and replace them. Move on to the plug wires and check them for electrical shorts or cracks in the wire. You say the mechanic changed the rpm then it is most likely in the timing. I recommend a Fix Your Car book, or find another mechanic. There are some out there who can make that beater run like Nascar.

The Revs Per Minute are probably to low , allmost stalling. Try adjusting the idle screw on your Carburetter or whatever timing device you have, it needs to be advanced slightly to increase your Revs Per Minute in the idle mode (when your car is standing, with the engine running and with no throttle on).

The mechanic is not responsible just because he put a clutch in it,have him adjust the idle back and it will be alright.
