They are not, but it is rare for a honest person to go far in politics because I think that political power is a thing of the devil. Name one world leader who is not a mass murderer.

What I find interesting about our government and other governments as well is that they are increasingly becoming similar to each other.
I know I should not bring up the past, but I feel I must when talking of government.
I fear that the politicians we elect are only puppets to the big machine-the wealthy, the rich, the centralized system. Politicians cannot speak their minds anymore because of this fear.
I believe this is the reason politicians like Tony Ben are of the past.

Probably, unfortunately. Apparently in the past ( I have read but cannot remember where), people would have a life and then become a politician. Therefore they used their life experience in politics. Now they are career politicians with a fat salary and don't have the same connections with the people. Sad.

Tony Benn talks a good case, which is easy. But when he was given a position in the Government he cocked up big time, goodbye Tony.

Sadly yes.
Regardless of what you may or may not think of the guy's beliefs he was the last of a dying breed in that he was a true parliamentarian. He was (is) more than just an MP, the majority of whom are now in it just for directorships and personal gain.
When he talked in parliament you knew he believed in what he was saying, and wasn't just saying it for effect.
