We are travelling to stay 6 nights in San Francisco in May, we want to see some of the napa valley. Should we stay a night in Napa Valley or go on a trip from San Francisco?

Yes, stay at least a night here. You can't pack it all into a day trip. Stay away from the Wine Train. All you see is the backs of buildings, litter, and brush. And it's overpriced. Now if you really want some beautiful views, book a hot air balloon ride! They're amazing! (If you want a recommendation, I can tell you how to get a discount.) You can see up to St. Helena, over to Petaluma, and even on a clear day the Golden Gate, and they give you champagne brunch afterwards.

There are a bunch of B&Bs here near downtown Napa, and even cheaper hotels than the $300 a night ones. The food is to die for, and the wineries are beautiful.

In May the weather will be beautiful, and just a little bit after the mustard has bloomed and the Mustard Festival. They've opened several wine tasting rooms downtown so you can sample a variety of wines with one card (which is available for $20 from the Visitor's Center).

Email me if you want more specifics on stuff to do and what not to miss.

A few years ago when I was over there I went on a day long wine tour of the Napa and Sonama valleys. There's some stunning scenery around the area. I really enjoyed the trip but being an excursion there was no element of choice as to where to stop or which vinyards to visit. This said those that we did visit were very good and interesting. There's so much to do in and around San Fran may be better to do a day trip so you've got time to see the rest there is to offer.

Enjoy.

Did something similar a few years ago.
I'd stay one night in the Napa Valley as it is a bit far to do it justice in a day trip. Also, you could check out an evening meal on the wine train.
If you get the time, also worth checking out Monterrey

Day 3 would not make experience. you would be going around the GG bridge two times, and if the 1st time is interior the morning, you will possibly be able to desire to be in weekday site visitors. additionally, you may not plan on there being fog. circulate to Alcatraz interior the morning, then afternoon force as much as Napa. Do verify with your condo automobile company and notice what the greater beneficial value may well be to %. up a automobile in San Diego and drop it off in Reno. In my experience, the main inexpensive yet respectable inn is superb Western. besides the shown fact that, all the places you're staying are very common vacationer places and may well be high priced to stay in. At Tahoe, you're in a position to get a reasonably affordable room at a on line casino in Stateline, NV. Your itinerary is packed, and additionally you will spend maximum human beings of a while driving. Is that what you have chose?

I would definately recommend staying at least one night in the valley if you can. Avoid Wine Train. It is tourist trap with mediocre food, you can't get off the train and must drink whatever wine they have on the train.

I would recommend having dinner in st. helena at Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen if you can. Wonderful food, kind of locals place.
