According to one of the discovery channel episode, the earth will someday come to a major catastrophic event. A meteor will hit earth, perhaps a comet that is believed to be the size of the comet that struck the earth million years ago will one day be revisit earth. Someday, somehow the ozone will be depleted. The sun will eventually reach the size that it will eat the earth.

For this reasons the astronomers, scientists and the government are making every effort to ensure the survival of the species. That is looking for a alternative HOME should the inevitable will come soon.

you are on the earth itself and you know what the earth is . There is no question of discovering the earth. But for the effort we put to discover the planes we would have known nothing about them and would have guessed so many things about the planets like the ignorant ancient men. Many men of the ancient times have though the planets to be the abode of the gods and many others have even thought they they were superhuman or Gods themselves. what you have spent on the discoveries made by our efforts to study he planets have not gone waste .We have learnt so many facts about the creation of the universe and th nature of space. Man is now trying to find out if it would be possible to migrate to the new planets to ease the pressure on the earth and to provide for the expanding population. We ar also trying to find out ways and means to make the planets hospitable for lives and to colonise on them. So whatever the governments have spent on the investigation and study of planets is not a waste .

In key part because the push for discovery also pushes the development of technology. When the 5m Hale telescope was installed at the Palomar Observatory in 1948 it was the best telescope of its kind. Yet, it is powerless to show a planet the size of earth near its sun. So, that pushed scientists and engineers to begin work on new ideas and technologies that could allow us to see a planet the size of earth near its own sun. Currently, that is still not possible, but the time is coming when it will be.

Why ask such frustratingly idiotic questions? I swear you all of us is merely stupid because it annoys the those that are not... the reason technologies did not flourish thousands of years in the past is because a) wars, which destroy information, were instantly ahead b) there have been limitations that prevented information from being shared c) significant breakthroughs at factors contained in the merely good few hundred years have allowed an improve contained in the speed of progression eg. electrical energy, pcs, etc. you do not truthfully imagine that a laser jet printer might want to be modeled and managed by hand do you? And what are you happening about ink for? merely because no human being got here across it, it does not mean that it wasn't there to be got here across. also, Egyptians had papyrus to write down on. the position do you imagine the be conscious for paper got here from?

Scientists are looking at Mars as a possible home if Earth becomes a runaway greenhouse effect. They are looking for new planets for pure scientific discovery, and also an attempt to find extraterrestrial life on Earth-like planets.

Scientific discovery drives technology. Many people asked why we wasted so much money putting a man on the moon, it really wasn't necessary. But if you look at the technology that came from that project you will see that it wasn't that big of a waste after all. For instance, without Apollo we wouldn't have Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CAT Scanners). Many people who've had serious brain injuries wouldn't be alive today if we hadn't put a man on the moon.

Some people are purists and think that space research is just a waste of time a money. We could better spend the money here improving conditions on this planet.

Then are other people who believe that the exploration of space is necessary for the future of the human race (if it doesn't go extinct). If you added up all the money spent on space exploration and compared that to all the money spent on wars - you'd find that we aren't really investing THAT much money on space exploration.

I believe it is scientifically important to explore all avenues of the continuation of the human race, don't you?

well u cant stop any development of human brain, as per discovered we still use minor percentage of our brain that's below as 10% of our brain. lets say that percentage is suits to those scientist who found this inventories and discoveries, so where do we stand??well revealing a new space or land for human kind to stay may be yes for your question too.in another fact we are staying in developed world, what would be your home if none of this science and development happened at all? may be cave or tree house our home?just imagine.knowing things is to prevent unwanted situation too. thats a plus point of the science and development !!!!

Human first explored Earth, It started from Adam and Eve, they explored and found new place for safe living found new resources food, water, mineral and so on. They found new herbs to cure people. But still there are many unanswered questions, starting from AIDS to the origin of life/universe. Some where in the universes there will answers to many of our unknown things. We may be having solutions to there needs. Who knows, they may find cheaper alternate to our crude oil on the surface of our Saturn/Jupiter. One : It may give us answers to many of our questions. Two : There is definitely a vast learning from these research.

We want to know more of what is out there in space.

But you are right that there are many problems here on Earth that need to be fixed now.

I have always felt that we have to solve our problems here on Earth be for we send people out to colonize space.

We shouldn't just think that we will do a good job in space if we can't do a good job here.
