I think there is a basic flaw in your reasoning. You equate conspiracy theorists with leftists. Conspiracy theorists come from all parts of the political spectrum.

But yes, the only ones who gain anything from conspiracy theorists currently are the terrorists. All the 911 rubbish, the sudden outpouring of support for Saddam and so on.But then, conspiracy theorists are always irrational, hate facts as they definitely cause problems in believing in conspiracies and are anti-establishment, whoever the establishment is. It is definitely a defensible position that the conspiracy theorists have links to the terrorists as no one else gains anything by their illogical outpourings.

Regarding "911 rubbish"... anyone who believes that a ragtag team of unequipped, poorly trained Saudia Arabians, who were deemed unfit to fly a Cessna, let alone a 767, was able to thwart the largerst techno-military behemoth and make those WTC buildings collapse straight down at freefall speed into their own footprints, all of the concrete blown into fine dust in midair before it even hit the ground is themself a "conspiracy theorist".... the official version of events, which belies science and common sense, is itself a conspiracy theory.

Anyone who supported going and bombing the crap out of innocents in Iraq (remember the alleged hijackers were supposed to be Saudi Arabian, yet Bush goes around holding hands with the royal dictators of that country, but I digress) is a goddamn idiot, who is dangerously and willfully ignorant.
