What's the best way to talk to a cute guy at a bar? I mean, what should I say besides "hey" or "hi". I'm too shy to make up some kind of pick up line.

Just strike up a convo... If he has on a nice shirt or shoes compliment him and get talking about clothing. You can then lead the conversation to other things. Or ask him what he's drinking *as long as its not beer.. Lol.. you can read the label yourself. And then offer to buy his next one. There are a lot of ways to talk to someone.

The goal is to get him talking. Ask a generic-type question that starts with "What do you think about...?" You can pick any topic, the decor in the bar, the food in that place, the new hottest place to be seen, Nancy Pelosi, whatever is on the television at that moment. Do not ask anything that can possibly be answered with a yes, no or maybe.

Pick up lines are for idiots anyway.
Just be yourself. I'd find it incredibly charming if a guy were to say what you just said. Basically "I'd like to chat with you but I don't have a clever line."
Be natural, relax and you'll do fine.

Most people odn't like cheap pickup lines, be it male, female, straight or not, an offending pickup line could get you hit. Just try small talk and take it from there.

Asking a good question, starts things off.....
You can always start with the classic, "Hi, I'm xxx xxx and extend your hand in friendship."
Asked them where there from....
Or you can also just do the whole eye contact thing, keep looking at them till the notice, once they do just go over and say hi...

How about: "Hello, my name is Marco, whats yours?"
He will say "xxxxxxxx"
Then you say "It's nice to meet you." then extend your hand palm perpendicular to which a polite person will take in his own. This will obligate him to respond verbally.
After that you're left to the level of your own communication skills.

just be yourself! say hi i'm.....and then let the guy talk to you! just let it happen don't force it, the ones that come naturally are the best. GOOD LUCK!!

you've got to seem confident and charming, even if your not. example;
strut over the bar to him with a fist full of ice cubes, and smash them right in front of him and say "there, the ice is broken"
guarantied a smile...
