My close colleague of three years avoids me for no apparent reason.?

He does not want to tell me the reason when I confronted him. All he said was friendship to him is reciprocating. When probed further he refused to tell me saying i should not analyse further and that I have done nothing wrong. He also said nobody has spoken to him the way I do. Despite crying, he still did not want to say. Why is he doing this?

Have you been impatient with him & used an unpleasant tone of voice? Or are you too sensitive & take offense where none is intended? Have you been sarcastic with him? Or were you too clingy? Try to think of instances when any of the above might have applied. Also consider whether or not you've been rude to him.

He may have cried because, in spite of his decision, he will miss you also. I lost a friend over a year ago &, like you, I asked her why. She was evasive & I didn't push it. I will never know why I lost her friendship. Sometimes you just have to accept it even if you miss the person.

Did you two ever have any type of romantic involvement?

Perhaps you forgot a birthday, or some pertinent aniversary in his life that he felt you should have remembered. He speaks of reciprocating, as well. Has he done anything significant for you lately? Have you done anything for him?

Maybe you should invite him to dinner or something, and try to find out what's bothering him.

He says nobody has spoken to him the way you have: Did you recently have some sort of argument, perhaps say something offensive without realizing?

It sounds to me like he is more than just a close colleague! Anyway, how did you speak to him. If you can't figure it out, you'll just have to wait till he's comfortable enough to tell you. Good luck.
