Ok, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone says that the death eaters or the followers of Voldermort all came from Slytherin or that there was no dark wozard that wasn't from Slytherin, but Sirius was accused & placed in Azkaban for being a follwer of Voldermort & for killing the muggles & Peter ( I know that we find out that he was innocent, but at 1st he was the one blamed) and he was from Gryffindor. Am I missing something? THanks

Yea it makes sense that they weren't all from Hogwarts, for example Karkaroff., but does Hargrid say in the 1st book that there wasn't a dark wizard that came out of Hogwartz that wasn't from Slytherin? and then Sirius (is wrongfully accused) and the we find out the Peter was a Death Eater?

Not all the Death Eaters came from Hogwarts, so they couldn't go just by Slytherin association. When they looked at everything, Sirius was suspected, so they imprisoned him.

Sirius, if I remember correctly had family ties to Slytherin (I think he was the first member of his family not to be placed in Slytherin, so he was expected to be bad). When Hagrid made the comment about Dark Wizards coming from Slytherin: a. we had no idea who Peter Petigrew was and b. Peter was thought to have been dead.
What Hagrid was basically saying was that all the people who were being named as Death Eaters were from Slytherin, but not everyone from Slytherin was a Death Eater.

This is an exaggeration. The reason they say this is because Lord Voldemort was a decendent from Salazar Slytherin and many withches and wizards from slytherin became "evil". But u have to remember, most Slytherins are purebloods and alot of purebloods hate muggles and don't wish to allow them into the Wizarding World even if it is a select few. Not to mention this was Salazar Slytherin's original intention.Coming back to Sirius Black he was a pureblood which is part of the reason the fact that he wasn't a Slytherin was overlooked when he was sent to prison. Voldemort loved and usually only accepted purebloods(even though he wasn't one himself) that is why he was accused and he was also left at the scene of the crime.Considering this Pettiegrew was probably a pureblood too!
Hope this makes sense!

A death eater does not have to be from Slytherin. Most of them are but there are followers of Voldemort that are from the other houses - like Peter Pettigrew. Just the same principle as not all slytherins are death eaters. Slughorn is not a death eater.

Peter Pettigrew was actually the one who was a Death Eater and not Sirius Black. Peter basically framed Sirius so Peter could go free and do what he wanted to do.

Just because someone was a 'dark wizard' doesn't necessarily make them a Death Eater. They could have had their own designs on ruling the world and not had anything to do woth Lord Voldy-wort.

It helps to be from Slytherin, but it's not mandatory to be so
