america. We are going to Los Angeles, Boston, Houston, Cleveland, New York and Washington DC. I am worried about the high crime rates in america and the gun laws which don't seem very strict. Is my family relatively safe? I feel completely safe in america. we have only ever travelled to parts of asia as a family.

You will be fine as long as you stay out of cities that have strict gun control laws. Places that are more constitutional the criminals are actually afraid of the citizenry.

Well, in LA, Boston, NYC & DC only cops & criminals are allowed to be armed.... I believe the gun laws in DC are actually stricter than Australia's as a matter of fact (not that that helps the murder rate any).
In Ohio & Texas one needs to be licensed to carry a concealed weapon (no license is required for purchase or ownership, as OH & TX are still relatively free states). This entails a criminal background check and training course on the law and marksmanship. The people who get these licenses tend to be extremely law-abiding and absolutely no cause for concern.

Youv've planned a route that basically visits the cities with the highest crime rates in the country. Contrary to popular opinion, not all americans are carrying a gun. In all urban centers it is illegal to carry. As you know, this does not stop criminals. If you're going out, do not do it alone, or most especially at night. This increases the safety factor by the truck load. If you're going out at night use the hotel shuttle whenever possible, and don't srtike out on foot even for just a few blocks. I'm not trying to scare you ya see, I just want you to be safe as well as enjoy yourselves.
Have fun!!!

Dont worry. The gun laws in New York City and DC are very strict and for the other cities they are strict but not as much as those two cities.

You don't have to feel unsafe about the gun laws or the people the follow the laws in the United States unless you plan on breaking into someone's house. The people who don't obay the guns laws are the people who would be the only threat, and that would be very minimal.

You needn't worry about gun laws. Gun laws apply to law abiding citizens who wish to own or carry weapons. Those aren't the type of people you should be fearing. However, criminals will obtain arms illegally if they wish to use them.
