Sorry Family Guy fans, but Simpsons conquered the prime-time land first because it won over 100 Emmy Award, but not only that, they do not use as much toilet humor or derogatory insults as Family Guy uses a lot to celebrities and their own characters, making some politically incorrect humor. Too much of that makes a show seem trashy and overly trite. Simpsons keep their humor to a controlled level where the cartoon can actually entertain the audience, not insult or disgust the audience. However, my real reason for picking the Simpsons over Family Guy is the quality of the episodes that Family Guy seems to blow over a lot. Simpsons personifies their characters in a commonly way where they do not flower the show up with wacky cartoon antics or pointless jokes, but Simpsons keep their show pure with entertainment that it's more enjoyable to see a dysfunctional family suddenly become a whole family in a warmly, but comic way. Simpsons relate so many people to their lives that it touches peoples' lives. Matt Groening puts more emphasis on the character's interaction and behavior in Springfield. I love his style because it brings out the truth without being too exposed or vulgar. Some of the episodes are funny, but some are serious. This is what makes the Simpsons likable is the variety Simpsons provide to a certain audience where it seems like they really want to show a softer side to each character, making it more interesting in what they are really like. This draws more attention to people. This effect works the same way for the Great Gatsby where people read to see what Gatsby is all about, and how you learn about each person from the common person's point of view. To conclude your question, Simpsons dominate all prime-time because it is rather quality than quantity of an episode or character that pulls the show together. Without that quality, a show would lead to nowhere and the whole concept would not make any sense. People like Family Guy for Peter's toilet humor, and Stewie's evilness. I do not really understand why Stewie became so evil. Family Guy seems very unclear on the character's personality because some thing just do not go together like why is Meg unpopular in the first place, and since when did Stewie get evil??? I do not understand the character's purpose. I love the plot lines, but some jokes get too old for my taste that I end up growing bored to their routinely tactics. It is an essential to keep on renewing fresh ideas than to stick to the same thing over and over.

That's a really tough one. Simpsons has had such a good run and still remains funny. Although Family guy is fresh and original and is refreshingly halarious. I'm going to go with Family Guy. I love Stewie too, he's brilliant.
