Which country? Let's assume that you're talking about the USA. In which case, you failed to specify which coast are you talking about. The west coast, the south coast, the east coast, the Hawai'ian coast, or the Alaskan coast?

The other information which you failed to specify was the size of the tsunami? So, for purposes of discussion, let's assume a tsunami on the same scale as the one which laid waste to coastal areas around the Indian Ocean 2 years ago.

The damage that would be done if a tsunami hit the Alaskan coast would be minimal as most of the coast is uninhabited or protected by islands or bays.

Hawai'i would be devastated and the damage would be in the billions of dollars.

The west coast would fare much better than either the east or south coasts as cliffs and highlands protect large portions of the coast. That said, the west side of San Francisco would be flooded, and the San Diego, Long Beach, and Santa Barbara areas of southern California would suffer incredible damage.

After seeing the damage that Katrina and Rita did to New Orleans and Houston, I have to believe that the south coast (a.k.a., the Gulf coast) of the USA would be practically destroyed.

This brings us to the east coast. While the flooding would be more severe in places like Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC, the damage would be catastrophic from Norfolk, VA to Boston. The reason being that this area (nicknamed Megalopolis) has the highest concentration of people on the planet. Boston, New York, and Philadelphia would all be underwater.

Darlin, first, which country are you referring to because the likelyhood of having a tsunami hitting your country does change, i think, with your location, the location of underground fault lines and so on. So, first, let us know what country you mean, and go from there, or you can look up the history of tsunami's hitting your country, just by googling or using yahoo or whatever, to find statistics or newsstories. Hope this helps alittle.

The tsunami became observed on Vancouver Island. They go the main important oceans. you will never adventure one in Ottawa, because of the fact which you're too a strategies inland and too a strategies above sea point. The Ottawa Valley is a "graben" even with the shown fact that, and project to universal minor earthquakes.
