In Eire you can get a alcoholic drink in a Pub, most people just drink Guinness, but Pubs are way more than that. It's a sight for social gathering, a place to eat. They are very family oriented businesses and cater to families with little children, until evening, then it's adult time. In all the time I was in Ireland I only saw one man that was drunk, the old stereotype is NOT true. They drink often, but they also know when to stop. They are fun places, no fighting, no filthy language, just singing, drinking and socializing. I loved it and I don't even drink alcohol, just pop.

A public house. Basically a lounge or a bar. In Ireland there's one on every corner. 'Pub' is generally used in Ireland & U.K

It's like a bar. Traditional here in England I think. Maybe all of Europe. A public drinking house.
