We are not the only country that does not have free health care. Most of those countries that have free health care are on the verge of bankruptcy because of it, and the tax burden on their citizens is overwhelming. What's more, the quality of the healthcare provided in those countries has been degraded considerably. For example, many Canadian citizens come to the U.S. for any important medical care because of the waiting time, e.g., as much as three months for a heart operation. The best doctors leave those countries and set up practice elsewhere where they can earn more money due to the low salaries provided by the state.
Whether you know it or not, the U.S. has the best health care of of any country. No one can be refused treatment at a state supported ER or walk-in clinic. Who pays for it? ... those who can afford the the outrageously high premiums for health insurance and some of our taxes. So the rich do pay for the poor and without a big wasteful bureaucratic government agency.
However, we are facing a crisis due to illegal immigration. Because we must treat everyone, those, who are not citizens and are not paying taxes, receive medical care. Some hospitals have been forced to close.

First of all there are dozens of country that do not even have health care period. Second there is no free lunch, health care is never free it is paid for thru higher taxes.
The decision will be this, do we want higher taxes so the government bureaucracy can run it (those of us that look at the government track record are worried) or do you want a system where the American people handle their own health care.
You do realize that with a national health system affluent Americans will not be part of it, they will go to a private system which will have the best doctors, best facilities, best treatment, it will be the same reason why affluent Americans buy BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus and poor Americans drive 10yr old clunkers.

Free health care? I don't think so. Perhaps you are thinking about the Canadian Health Care System, where the health care comes from the taxes . I have several friends living in Canada, and everyone gets the same health care but they do pay higher taxes, and that is where the money comes from. So, either you pay higher taxes, or you pay for your health care. Either way, someone has to pay for it. No one should have "free" care, unless you have extreme circumstances. I do know that if you cannot pay for your medical bills, they will set you up on a payment plan, but free - I don't think so.

I have ask this question many times or different versions of it and I get the same responses from the less intelligent of the citizens of the U.S., but when a person from England or Canada answer they will tell you most of what people here in the states to believe is true, simply isn't. Health Care while not free is available to anyone without wait. They make appointments to see Doctor's and if they need a specialist they get a referral from them and there is no huge wait.
One of the myths about socialized medicine is the huge cost. But the CEO of General Motors just recently said that $1500 of every car sold goes to health care for their employees. This is a hidden "tax" that every body the buys a new car pays. With nationalized medicine this would not be the case as health care could be offered at a much smaller amount if you take the profit out of it from insurance company's. Many of the talking points from people here in the states are simply not true. I for one call for a complete over haul of our health care system to include health care for anyone that needs it.

If you actually talk to the people From those countries they will tell you another version. The rich from those countries usually come here for speedy and advanced medical procedures. The PM of Canada, the Chidren of a former UK PM and Castro are former patients of US hospitals. If you like the Free clinic style they have them in the USA as well. How about HMO's people complain all the time about those and they are quite like what you seek. A cousin of mine died in the UK waiting on a list for an operation.( the guy ahead of him at the Hospital was having a FREE Sex Change!) ...... You will find that many of those nations have newer pay as you want systems starting up to offset the failures of the social systems and some have Black market versions.
Answerman All the people I am sitting with (30 of them) are from the UK and they say YOU"RE NUTZ

Before you whine about free health care, look at Britain and Canada. Both countries have SOCIALIZED health care and the populations suffer because of it. It takes weeks, sometimes months to get appointments for medical care because of this system and the bureaucracy that is caused by it. Also, look at the problems with Medicare and welfare that come from government control. I think our health care system, while being expensive, is the best in the world. Also, I don't have to wait 6 months to get an EKG because of the government red tape. If you really want socialized health care, move to China.

There is no such thing as "free" health care. It's coming out of taxpayers' pockets. And there's no proof that it's a good thing in the long run.
Lastly, considering how inept and corrupt government is, why would any sane person give them control over such a large portion of the public sector? Why would anybody let the government control their treatment?

You should educate yourself. Countries who have free health care come here for health care. The other countries dont even have food and they die.

Show us in the setup of our government where the government is supposed to take the place of each person's personal responsibility....
The fact is that the government was NEVER set up to be a crutch for individuals. PROMOTE the general welfare, not PROVIDE the general welfare.
You want 'universal healthcare'?? Ready for a 45% tax rate??? Ready for more medical red tape because it is government run?
Grow up and live in the real world. Don't look for handouts, EARN your way.
