The full orchestral version of 'Nights In White Satin' from their album 'Days Of Future Passed' released in 1967. It was the first time a group of musicians called The Moody Blues mixed rock and a full orchestral sound by the London Festival Orchestra composed, arranged and conducted by the late and brilliant Peter Knight. Eight minutes of sheer musical brilliance never bettered since - and that was 40 years ago! It is still available as well!

House of The Rising Sun by The Animals - one of the most easily recognised songs within its first few seconds. After all recognition is everything in the song sense.

That's a tall order.
I'd have to say "Yesterday." This Beatles song has been covered several thousand times, I believe.
My own Beatles favorite would be "A Day in the Life."
