I just recently started a new job and about a month before my insurance went into effect I found out I was pregnant. I haven't gone to the doctor yet, but is that considered a pre-existing condition? I have Great West Insurance but I am nervous about them rejecting me. Also if I am not covered then what are my other options?

not if they dont know you know you are pregnant, if they deny you for that, then go to your local DHS office and apply for government assistance.

It depends on your policy. In some states it is illegal for insurance companies to consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition, but if the insurance company can get away with it they will try. Some employers pay top dollar to avoid pre-existing conditions as well. So, it is best to contact his human resources department and ask. Just so you know, if he does add you and it is considered pre-existing, some companies require that you do not get pregnant for another 6-24 months before they will cover the pregnancy. Even if you did not know you were pregnant when you signed for the insurance. Again, it is best to ask your human resources department as well as speak to the insurance company with your group number in hand.

Well, if I were you, I would just be very honest and forthright and ask. It would be awful to count on the insurance and then have them revoke what they paid out after finding out you were already pregnant when hired. I think it is better to know up front what you are looking at. You will then have plenty of time to plan and prepare.

Don't try to hide the facts, being honest is always the best route, even if sometimes difficult. I am sure your new employer will be impressed with your forthrightness.

If you are not covered, there are alternative insurance options as well as assistance. Contact your local Crisis Pregnancy Center for info on that. Even though this is not a crisis pregnancy, they are very kind and helpful and have a wealth of information. They will be glad to help. Their toll free number is 1 800 395 help.

sometimes it is, but sometimes it's not. it just depends on the insurance company. Most of the time it is not considered a pre-existing condition, though, because it isn't like it's a disease...
if it is, just tell them you had no idea you were pregnant when you signed up. you are only a month or 2 along, right? that's certainly believable.

This partially depends on whether or not you had other health insurance coverage without lapse. If you did not have previous coverage, yes..this will be pre-existing. When my son was born, my pregnancy too was pre-existing. I contacted the hospital and made arragements to pre-pay for the labor and delivery. Thus, getting a cheaper rate. My OBGYN also did a payment plan...and the OB care and hospital was all taken care of prior to delivery.

I got new coverage when I was 12 weeks along, and my company did not consider it a preexisting condition. I think it depends on the company, just call and ask. If your pregnancy is not covered, then go get medicaid. It is more of a hassle, but at least you will be covered.

so just pretend you didnt know about the pregnancy before the insurance started. chances are they ins co would count it as a pre-exisisting condition. It's only a month's difference- most women don't even know they are pregnant by then!

This is a preexisting condition and the only option is to pay the doctor and hospital yourself.
