J, You seem to be someone very comfortable with computers, so let me just say this: If you want to put every dollar into the system, then you should build it yourself. Get a nice mobo, cpu (dual core - intel or amd), and some fast ram. You can find it a lot of places - newegg, tiger, pricewatch. You should only look at 7200rpm drives, and get a nice video card. Dont skimp on any of the above because of your requirements.
The extra stuff can be tier 2 as it wont matter for performance (case, mouse, keyboard, network, and other junk stuff).
have fun!

Hello
I suggest that any new computer should do your job go for core duo If you spend around £500 - £600 you will get an excellent PC.
Good luck consider this config below
P4 more than 3 Gzh
Memory Min 1 Gb Ram
Storage 250 Gb
A DVD RW is common these days
19'' tft is good but if you want to save a very little bit of money you can go for 17'' but you will not save a lot

If you want a piece of kit that looks nice and is strong on artwork and music, the Apple iMac is hard to beat. There aren't a lot of games are written for it, however, but you can download a free program called Bootcamp (I think it's called) which will enable you to install Windows XP on the iMac (alongside the Mac OS). You'd have the best of both worlds then.

Any new pc out there will run Poser (although I don't know why you'd want to use that software in the first place). Most new PC's will also run Photoshop, Illustrator, 3DS Max etc. Just make sure your ram is above 2GB (IMO). Also make sure you have a good graphics card. Processing power isn't as important to me as Memory and a good graphics card.

get a HP media center if you want to use it for music, art, photos, videos, and more. trust me a HP media center wouldent be any better for what you want to use it for. also the programs you talked about take alot of processing at nce. so make sure your new computer is packed with a duo CPU processor and that the computer as at least 2 to 4 GB of memery
hope this answers your question

Alienware are very good PC's but overpriced and maybe to much for the use you have intended.
I recommend HP, their customer support is unbeatable.
Have a look here http://www.shopping.hp.com/desktops
Don't go Dell !
