I agree with you, the movie was rubbish. The characters were one dimensional, the plot was disjointed and basically gutted the book. I was never really invested in the characters and so by the end, I just didn't care what happened to the protagonist...sigh I think I'll go re-watch LOTR!!

Yes I am just as disappointed as you, they didn't even get the guy's age right!(15 not 17!) I personally am a HUGE Harry Potter fan and starting off the way they did with this trilogy the directors should not even think of trying to beat HP now. I hope Eldest is alot better!
By the way, to the second answer,I applaud u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend said the same thing, she read the book, and I think she said they left out all the important things. I wanted to go see it, but not knowing about the story line, well, reading the book, I figured I'd maybe rent it at Blockbuster one day after reading it (months later when it's alrady out on DVD or whatever)... Now knowing it was a disappointment, I guess I'll just find something else to read.

You are definitely right on that one. Me and my best friend are complete Lord of the Rings fanatics, and then we came across The Inheritance Trilogy. Needless to say we got into it and were depressed by how bad the movie was. I am sorry you are disappointed too!

Dont blame u...i was equally disappointed after watchin all de Harry Potter movies. Have read de books and loved dem...but de movies contained a lot of unnecessary stuff and less of de important stuff. Thing dat i hate most is dat dey take out certain scenes. Anyways Hollywood doesn give a damn abt us so y bother abt it. Let ur imagination run high and create ur own movie in ur mind while u read de book. lol Some philosophical crap. :P

That's what happens when you take a book of that length and try and cram it into a 2 hour movie. Not that that's right, or anything, it's just unfortunate.

I am an avid Harry Potter fan (the books mainly) and I refused to see Eragon just because the movie trailer stated that it was better than Harry Potter.
Yeah I said it! Harry Potter rocks!

I agree with you. Everything was out of wack in the movie. Why do they make books into movies? They can never get them right.

Yeah, I certainly experience your soreness. waiting a good 3 years for this e book to come back out, and you're given with certainly one of those bitter ending. i particularly needed they did no longer "go away all of us in the back of", yet i assume Paolini foreshadowed it for years, consistently bringing it up in each and every novel "could you go away and not in any respect return blah blah blah". It replaced into expected, yet although rather disappointing. i'm with you in this one ='(
