The French Horn is a long tube made of brass. To make it manageable it is rolled up into a circular arrangement, but it would work just as well if it was stretched out straight.

The tube is conical - that is, it starts very narrow and gets wider as if goes along. The player blows into the narrow end, and keeps the lips close together. Air passing over the lips causes them to buzz, and this buzzing causes a vibration to start up in the tube. The tube vibrates at a particular frequency determined by its length and this becomes a musical note which comes out the other end of the horn.

There are three ways that the note can be changed. By tightening the lips and blowing harder, the air in the tube can vibrate at twice, three times or four times the frequency - these are called harmonics, and will cause the note to go up in pitch. The player can press on keys which divert the air into other pipes, lengthening the tube and causing the pitch to go down by 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 semitones. And the player can put their hand in the open end of the tube which will also affect the pitch.

u open ur mouth and juxtapose ur lips with the mouthpiece. Let your tongue into the mouth of the horn and explore. at the same time try to suck a bit. I think that's how it should work.
Oh and if it doesnt, try to suck the air from the other end. :-) lol

you get the pitches by putting your hand into the hole and moving it and you press the trigers to get a higher or lower sound
