Given that Charles Edward Stuart(Bonnie Prince Charlie) was Lawfully crowned and annointed as king Charles the third of Scotland what would the legal position be? Although the Scots were willing to accept Elizabeth as Elizabeth 2 (Albeit under portest) one doubts they'd be willing to connive in the slighting of the Bonnie Prince. Perhaps Charles will revert to his foreign German roots and become yet another Goerge like the rest the Hanoverian upstarts. Long live the Stuarts, Legitimate Kings Of fair Alba

He might not take the name Charles as his coronation name, but if he did he would be Charles III of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and Charles IV, King of Scots. Scottish monarchs do not have the title 'King/Queen of Scotland'. They are King or Queen of Scots.

Ezekiel - he was crowned in 1745.

Would have to be Charles III. The previous two Charles were both post Union with Scotland.
But I feel we can compromise on Charles IIIB

I had also heard that Prince Charles was planning on using one of his many other names when he becomes King, due to the association with Charles I and Charles II.

I think WIlliam has about 10 middle names so he would also be perfectly entitled to use any of them.

Charles III because the number actually refers only to Kings/Queens of England, not Scotland. Unless he chooses to use another name.

I just learned (from QI) that after Queen Elizabeth II was crowned it caused a fuss in Scotland because she was the first of her name for them, so they changed the law so that all future coronations would take the next number of whichever is higher. So the next James would be VIII rather than III, and if Charles were to keep that name he would be IV rather than III.

There is no such thing as the King or Queen of Scotland, it is the King or Queen of Scots only.
Charles will be known as Charles 1V of Scots but I think that he will not succeed his mother he will be passed over in favour of William who will be William 1V of Scots and V of England. I love his loving Wife who is a distant cousin of mine as Margaret Ann Middleton s family came from Staffordshire, originally quite a long time ago.

He has stated tha he will not be known as King Charles because of the negative connotations of both the previous Kings of that name. He will use another name, one of his middle names and I can't for the life of me remember which! Sorry!

When was Bonnie Prince Charlie legally crowned King of Scotland? I have never heard or read this anywhere before.
