All the patterns at Wal-Mart are 50% off the printed price, all the time. They also have low prices on their material (some nice fabrics are half the price of the same thing at Joann's), and the store in my area has one aisle with nothing but $1/yard and $2/yard bolts of fabric. Start out with a very simple pattern, ask the employees in the stores, they will be more than happy to help you. They have helped me a lot! Does your local community center or college offer any type of sewing class? If so, take it, they will have machines there for you to use, and it's so much easier to have someone show you the proper way to pin, etc. Good luck!

If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area, the Mc Calls patterns are on sale for .99, and the walmart will honor the paper if you take the ad, and you can find really great fabric at walmart for a 1.00 a yard, a simple nice pattern can be made really cute. Try searching for something like, learn to sew, in your search engine, maybe google. Good luck, if you really want to make your own cothes, it's worth the effort.

There is a learnhowtosew.com online.. but to start you need to go to a local store that has material, thread and patterns. Pick out a pattern what you want to sew, get material and of course you are going to need a sewing machine.
In the pattern there is step by step instructions too
