because of the education system and because americans are a little dumb

I can't speak for Japan, but I will give one explanation as to why the American People have weakened academically. Oppression!

During the early 70's the American Government created the "Gas Crisis". This created "Inflation". The cycle is to increase the cost of merchandise because of the cost of gas. Then, increase the pay so the employee can afford the merchandise. Increasing the pay caused the merchant to increase the cost of the merchandise, which caused the price of gas to increase to keep up with the costs. Thus, creating more cost and the cycle continued.

Now, with each cycle, the employee's increase is subsequently less than the merchant's increase on a percentage basis. This moved the nuclear family from having a single adult working full-time to support their family to needing two adults working full-time to support the family. Honestly, I believe that two adults can no longer support a family that one adult use to. This is also a leading cause of violence amoung our children. And could be the expression of the children's frustration caused by the oppression of their parents.

I offer this as an example of the cost/pay ratio

In '69 a McDonald's Hamburger costed 10 cents. The average minimum wage was $1. Now, the same burger is sold at $1, so you'd think that the average minimum waged job would be $10. However, we know that it isn't the case. The average minimum waged job is just over $5. Thus, requiring two people to pay for one burger. The employee's have half as much for each other and the employer has twice as much for themselves.

Bottom line is that we as a people are sturggling so much just to survive that the struggle makes it impossible focus energies on higher education.

Reality is that most people are far more intelligent than they were prior to the 60's. During JFK's presidency, he created "The Big Brother Act". This allowed the government to choose what they would allow the public to vote on and what laws they would impliment on their own. Now, at the time, the law seemed something credible as the average person could not read and write well. Let alone make decisions of such magnitued that was required to run a country. In our time, the average person not only knows how to read and write, but has some college experience. However, the oppression leaves the average person believing that they are destined for a doomed fate and the need to see beyond the present point is stiffled by the daily struggle to provide their child with the basic requirements of living.

My point is that the ability to attain an average IQ above other countries is there, if the General American Public wasn't stiffled by an oppressive government.

** note: I just want all of those of you that feel that our children do not spend enough time in class to remember this. Prior to the '60s, we were the leaders of the world. Yet, we spent less time in class while other countries had thier children in school 7 days a week and 12 months a year as was in Germany. So, you can't say it is because our children don't learn enough. It is that our children aren't children anymore, they are little adults. And we do not teach them the morals of our faith, we teach them the morals of productivity to generate more income for the oppressors.

Because many of the children go to a "school" when regular school is over... they can spend 14 to 16 hours a day between either school or studying/homework. It sounds like a great thing for the kids to be so smart, but the trade-offs are... kids killing themselves because they don't get picked for the right High school (High School for crying out loud!!!!!!!!) 9 year olds losing their hair from stress (I swear I am not making this up) and adults that are so performance driven that they become workaholics. That is why the society is starting to become more and more violent and rebellious.... If you think we have violent stuff here, go rent a Japanese anime and see all the cartoon sex and violence..... the movie Tokyo Drift is based on REAL underground street racing..... For every action there is a consequence... for the U S it was the "enlightened" view of child discipline.... I am not advocating abuse of children by any means, but look at school violence statistics starting in the 50's through today and you will be amazed at how much pregnancy, rape, murder, robbery, drug/weapon possession, and arson have increased.

IQ isn't going down. It's actually going up. By about three points a decade. It's called the Flynn Effect after the New Zealand researcher who first noted it. In the USA as well in other countries.

it is the educational system and the usage of media. American TV trys to use propoganda to make USA seem a better place than the rest of the world while at the same time it is painting a picture of the rest of the world being the most horrible place. Propaganda is a strategy that governments use when they want to push forward an idealogy of their own, and the resault of that is the sacrifise of the population's knowledge of the reality outside the world they live in...

because the education sucks and parents aren't doing anything about it. In the end, Parents have the power to make the education system better, but instead they just grip a little or sit idolly by. Furthermore, our education system requires the use of more discipline for students as opposed to makeing excuses for their bad behavior. What ever happened to spankings?
