When tie rod ends fail, the front of the car becomes uncontrollable. In the meantime, you will experience bad steering and handling, and you will notice premature wear on the front tires. For your safety and the safety of others, get it fixed.

Replace the tie rod end first. If you lose that, the rest of it won't matter. You may be in a ditch, or worse. Then, do the control arm. Leave the boot for last. Depending on the mileage on your car, changing the whole axle is not a bad way to go if the car is worth keeping, etc. I would listen to the Audi guy long before I'd listen to the Goodyear guy. Maybe ask around about a reliable and honest European car shop, have the front end evaluated, (possibly for free), and go from there. One last thought; $350 for one side, new axle and boot is high. You should be able to get both sides done for around that much.

Eventually a tie rod will fail. If this happens at any speed you will instantly loose control and get pulled violently to one side. This will result in an accident for you and maybe someone else.........say a minivan loaded with kids. To drive in an unsafe car like that could be construed as criminal negligence and lead to manslaughter charges if the crash produces fatalities. Get the car fixed right away, it's a lot cheaper than the alternatives.

If they are well worn, eventually they will fail. It could be on one side or the other, or both may fail. When they do, you will have no steering control and could possible lose a tire. Pray you aren't doing 65 in traffic when it happens.
You will also get the pleasure of meeting me when I come to tow away your car after the accident.
Get them fixed, your safety is a stake.
