Hey Yasemin,

No one can answer why you chose Bollywood. It is a good choice for a presentation on Theater and Acting. Very popular, producing lots of movies, there is a lot of information on the web, they have their own stars, entertain a whole segment of the world in a different way than Hollywood.

Well, we can't figure that part out, but here is some info to get your presentation started:

Bollywood is a nickname for Mumbai, which is the center for the Hindi-language film industry in India. Traditionally, Bollywood films are pure melodrama and contain lots of music and dancing, though they are not considered musicals as are called in the West a talk-sing-talk-sing-talk sing format of Broadway Musical. They last about three hours and are meant to entertain the audiences with as much excitement and glitz as possible. They are like the soap operas of India. Tickets are roughly twenty cents (otherwise no one could afford to go), and everybody has a really good time. For more information look up Wikipedia: Indian Cinema, Bollywood, and whatever links they suggest at the bottom of those articles. If you want your presentation to be really exciting, you should bring in a piece of music ("bhangra" is the current hot music style in Bollywood right now) and a print out of a few Hindi movie posters.

Have a good time! Few things in life are as exciting as a Bollywood filmi! And remember, the "w" is pronounced like a "v".

Because they're fun and colourful films! Plus lots of good music (generally).Bollywood is becoming a lot more popular in this country too. If you don't know where to start (what exactly are you presenting on) you could watch Bride and Prejudice, it's 'Bollywood' for beginners. Only problem is some of the films are quite long (e.g. it took me 5 goes before i got through all of Fanaa, even though it was a good film). But there's a huge variety of genres and although alot of it is still very traditional family type films, there is a growing number of more modern ones (which have often caused controversy). Britain is a popular filming location for these films, and it is interesting to see how they portray our country (usually lots of dancing on the streets and scantily clad western girls!).

Watch the film Veer-Zaahra. It stars Shahrukh Khan, the king of bollywood.
It will give you an idea of the make up of Bollywood films. It is extremely moving

The centre of the Indian film industry is in Mumbai, which used to be called Bombay. When Indian blockbuster films started to be exported to the rest of the world, someboby combined Bombay with Hollywood, as a description of the genre.
