Lots of pots, you can grow anything in pots. Herbs are very good and you can eat them too. The only problem is watering which is essential with container growing and is very inefficient, but you could also install a rainwater butt and use that or recycle washing up/ bath water etc. I used to have a tiny, paved courtyard garden and it was an oasis with everything in pots- it even had a compost bin.

Hello Mada.
All is not lost! There are hundreds of things you could do to make your space beautiful. Like everyone else says, go for pots galore, and fill them with all your favourite plants. Raised beds look great and they're easier on the back! Get a half-barrel and have a mini pond feature, and surround it with pots of Hostas, Ferns and other moisture loving plants.
Use your walls for climbers using a mixture of various Ivy's with Clematis and Honeysuckle running through it.
Lift up a couple of your tiles and grow Chamomile there. It will soon spread and soften the hard edges.
Hanging baskets can have a dramatic impact if they're planted well.
For the summer evenings you could create a fairytale atmosphere by using lights in the garden and having a mirror surrounded by plants will look great.
Get fruit trees specially grown for patio culture and you can have a snack as you walk round.
Choose plants for every season. You can have flowers every month of the year if you want. Hope that inspires you, x

Large potted plants and small evergreens is one answer and of course you'll be able to take them with you should you move.
Install an arbor and place pots of vines on either end to grow over it and hang baskets of plants from it.
Place a trellis or lattice against a wall with potted vines at the base and flat backed plant holders attached to it.
Also, is there a possiblity of raised flower beds for shallow rooted plants such as annuals? Try laying down heavy duty plastic sheeting first to protect the tiles.

You can build flower boxes out of wood timbers or stones or brick... whatever would go best with the tiles. You could use some in corners and along fence and against the house. Also along/around deck or patio. Then accentuate things with different sizes/shapes/colors/textures of container plants. You can even make/buy container water features to really jazz it up.
Dont let it hold ya back - use your creativity and turn blah into paradise.
Good luck and I hope this helps!!!

You could make use of potted plants of various sizes or take up some of the flag stones(tiles) and plant things in the gaps you make.

how about frames with soil in them. You can make them any size and height and make sure you have drain holes at the base.
There are also some great books out there for container gardening.
Some container gardens are prettier than the soil ones.
Google container gardens.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/eTBXk
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

What about indoor plants in pots? Or hanging plants? I have a live miniature bamboo centerpiece for my dining table.
