Go rent/borrow a carpet shampooer with a furniture attachment.
Eventually it will go away. My mom bought a couch like that and the smell went away after a couple months.

If Febreeze didn't help you should try airing them out. If the weather permits set outside for the whole day. If this doesn't help, I imagine you are stuck with the smell. Almost nothing takes away the smell of mothballs.

a muty smell? u mean it doesn't speak! If the smell is kind of sickly sweet, it is likely from smoke and u will never get rid of it 100% but u could try shampooing with citrus oils in the water they will mask just about anything or first try a whole box of backing soda spread on it and left for a good week or so,

Pour a little bit of baking soda all over it and tap it off the next day. It will also help if you can let the couch stay out in the sun a whole day before doing this. This is also good for beds, pillows and shoes.

Have the pieces professionally cleaned and then spray with Odo Ban.
Enjoy your new furniture.
