you know how when you do a memory scan on crucial.com and it tells you what you have and what you should have.
it says not to go over the recommended RAM limit by manufacture. what happens if you do go over the manufactures limit

Depends...

You may be lucky and it may use all the memory if the computer manufacturer specified the biggest chips that were made at the time but built it for bigger ones.

You may be sort-of-lucky and you may be able to use the maximum memory that your computer is specified to use. Oops, you wasted some money there.

You may be unlucky because it may not recognise the memory at all if it is the wrong physical layout. Oops, you wasted all your money and Crucial may not give you a refund as it was your bad.

If the voltage / type is OK it's not likely to do any damage to the computer or memory even if it's not recognised.

I've seen all 3 conditions. The middle one is probably commonest.

If you want to be sure, see if someone will lend you a bigger stick of memory to try before you buy... or see if anyone else has done it before.
