I had a Black friend tell me King Solomon sold slaves to America. America didn't even exist when King Solomon was alive.
Is it pure ignorance. Blacks are enslaving Blacks in Niger
today. Muslims enslaving Black Christians in Sudan. There
are women in this country that are Chinese and Latino,
who are brought here and forced into being sex slaves.
White women have been sold as sex slaves to rich rots
in the Middle East for forever.
There are "plantatians" in Brazil were men are taken to
to work and are forced into slavery. Child slavery in China.
The rapper KRS ONE said there are Blacks in New York
City that think all Whites are Italian. Like he said in his song.
YOU MUST LEARN!
Get an education. Knowledge is Power! Power to overcome the lies of the Devil. Like you're the only one who has problems.

they are because they can be, and they get special attention like affirmative action the more noise they make about it.

Uhhh, sweetie, I don't get where your statement about us being hypocritical about slavery comes into play. Yes, many Blacks are aware that there were slaves of other races. And some realize that there is unlawful slavery today...what's your point? Are we to fight the battles of others in different countries when we're fighting several wars of our own in America? Surely most of us can sympathize, and some can make an effort to do something about it, but in the meantime, we have children dying in Africa and several of our men and women dying in America's war against the middle east. So when you can tell how and when BLACK AMERICANS can single-handedly abolish the dictatorship which allows some of this slavery to occur, you let me know. Because the last time I checked, it took an entire nation and a very high political figure to end America's slavery. So if you ask me, you're barking up the wrong tree.

Have you ever thought that these people do not see any connection to each other? Muslims will not feel any brotherhood towards a Christian because Islam is seen as a racial identity and a culture. And even if both members of either religion were the same color in the same country, skin color is not a sense of relation in some cultures. Did you actually READ if what your "black friend" told you was true? So, because a black person told you what you want to hear, that means it's true? YOU must learn! And lastly, stop with the general statements. All african-americans are not thinking about slavery. Their thinking about the racism they experience today. And we all know where it started from, don't we.

Proper education is the reason for "their" ignorance about historical truth. It is mostly, but not specific to, your inner cities where it is more reasonable for someone to thug and pimp than it is to get a good education. Keep in mind that it is not all. Many inner city parents recognize the threat and try to get out before the cycle continues for their children, but it is difficult at times. I would even go as far to say that "spokespeople" for the black community also add to the cycle of ignorance and blindness, i.e., Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Cynthia McKinney to name but a few.

It doesn't help our youth to try and rewrite American history either, which is what many organizations, ACLU, are atttempting to do. It seems when you read about American history these days there is a heavy focus on Slavery and Black American history instead of ALL American history. Diversity studies are good to a point. Its ok up to the point of disregarding every other race in America that has built this country and thats not excluding the various nationalities of the caucasian makeup. I get frustrated when people say that this country was built on the backs of slaves...BS! This country was built on the backs of every ethnic group you can think of. Anyway, I can go on and on about this.

Proper education is the key! We live in a classist society, not a racist society (this is 2006 not 1966). If you got the money then you have opportunity. Thats just the truth of it all. However, someone with drive and motivation can break the chains of poverty and rise to the top...if they would only try. The easy road is not always the best road.

There is no doubt that you get a lot of that from watching Television.

The truth about slavery is that yes, the ancestors of many African Americans are not the only victims of slavery. If you look back into history, you'll see slavery was an immense trade. The Romans had slaves, as did the Greeks, Persians, and even the Egyptians. As a matter in fact, the decendants of the slaves of Egypt still walk among us today. We know of them as Jews.

In King Solomon's day there were slaves of all races. The slaves were usually prisoners taken at times of war, or abducted free men sold into slavery.

In truth, history has never singled out people of African decent to be from the only race to have endured inhumane acts of slavery.

Your black friend is indeed wrong, and I hope that you were a good friend and corrected him. Some people are not taught about slavery, they are only taught to hate the race of people who brought them over here. You are absolutely correct when you say that other countries have their own system of slavery, in fact slavery still exists in some countries. However, you cannot generalize and think that all blacks feel the same way. It depends on the person. there are people who even doubt that the holocaust exists who are whites, but we can't assume that all whites feel that way. its the level that you have been taught. later!

human beings improve. If a females cleans up and develop into moral is she sparkling and moral or is she nonetheless the floozy she became once? I used to weigh 25 lbs more desirable. Am I nonetheless overweight? i am hoping so, because i'm balding and decide to nonetheless be seen as certainly coiffed, truly than, uh, basically getting 'more desirable reflective.' Are you truly declaring we'd want to continuously help slavery in different international places? you know, this is a good thought.....I am from Mississippi where everyone thinks we still have slavery in this day and age, yet they forget the ghettos or slums in their big cities they have even worse conditions than we have....I live in a rural county and most of the minority have government built brick housing now instead of shacks of the olden days. They have had years and years of the same education opportunities we have all had. Some colleges have even lowered some standards so as not to be too "high" for some....figure that one.
They want to use slavery (100s of years ago) but yet we are supposed to forget the history of the civil war, forget anything that has to do with our nations past. To me thats a double standard.
History is history you can't change it...grow up and learn from it and move forward.

I think most whites such as those here are not only very ignorant themselves about slavery but have such guilt about the contributions their grandparents had in Jim Crowism, that they have to attack blacks on this issue as a defense mechanism.
The answer to your question is a hypocrisy on top of an hypocrisy. Where as you are correct, blacks in Africa sold other blacks into slavery and there continues to be slavery throughout the world (hypocrisy 1), America is supposed to be the beacon of freedo throughout the world, America was based on certain rights that all men are created equal and all men are gauranteed the pursuit of happiness. In short America holds itself to a different standard than many other countries in the world, which is why this is such a great country.
The problem is, dispite this, America was one of the last countries (1965) to abolish not only slavery but Apartheid, when many civil western countries had long did away with it. That in itsself is a stunning hypocrisy, one that the country will be reminded of for decades to come and this hurts your feelings...so your only avenue of defense is to attack black people.
As far as Affirmative action goes, you can't be the beacon of freedom, and then prevent an entire race from competing with whites up until just 40 years ago and then get mad when the system is righted to give blacks a chance to catch up to you. Sure, some blacks will take advantage of it but, that's the penalty you'll have to pay for all those years of taking advantage of them.
Stop whining and get on with your life :-).

I think they are hyprocrites about slavery because the education system does not teach them about their history, however, this is not an excuse. I am black and from the West Indies and I studied Caribbean History in high school which thought us about the slave trade (the truth about it, because there alot of nonsense been propogated now about it). More people should read up on slavery, not only blacks. This year would be 200 years since the aboliotion of slavery so there should be alot of programmes and events that people could go to.
