Is there a reason for that? I usually don't. Is there ever a time that you have to type it in ? The computer does it for you anyway,so why do you need it?

It's much faster if you type the www yourself.

Not all web addresses start with www. For example, the English-language version of Wikipedia is en.wikipedia.org. There's no www there.

If you want to go to www.example.com and you type example.com without the www, then the browser first tries example.com. It may wait a while before it decides there is no such address. Then it tries www.example.com and gets the page you are looking for. So the whole process is slowed down.

the WWW makes the webpage load faster. without it, it would have to insert the WWW itself and it would take slightly longer. if you don't mind waiting another half of a second, though, you don't really have to.

Well you still need to enter it. The difference is modern browsers automate this process

Though most servers will automate and redirect for you, there are some servers that do see a difference between abc.com and www.abc.com.
