My friends and I use from 'Grisoft' Avg75free for anti-virus. Also you can use their 'anti-spy' if you are using WinXP. In addition I run the Yahoo anti-spy from the Yahoo toolbar as a cross check. Also there is another freeware by: Ad-aware by lavasoft.
Good luck and also download a free firewall from Zonelabs called Zonealarm
