Plumber's Rocket or smoke-rocket: a smoke bomb used by plumbers to detect leaks in pipes. Quaint Victorian device before the era of pressure testing. I suspect its use was limited to testing larger diameter waste lines. Even though its called a rocket it would be stationary & would more resemble our modern road flare.
