a nightgown. i also have a midwife, but i am having my baby at the hospital, and she is delivering it there. i personally would rather be at the hospital to have my baby, because i feel more safe. but some things that i would do to get ready is, make sure that you have clean clothes for your baby to wear right after he/she is born. and clean towels, and a clean bed for you to lay in while you are giving birth.

If you have good health, I say go for the home birth, or at least the midwife. Many can deliver at hospitals. Our second was hospital delivered by a midwife. Our first was hospital delivered by an OB/GYN female 15 minutes after I arrived at the hospital. Watching my sister's 4 births and thinking about my 2, I say stay away from the hospital as long as humanly possible to lessen your complications. The less the medical profession has to do with a normal gestation and delivery, the far better.

Your midwife should be able to give you accurate information on the preperations that you need to take. Wear whatever you think you will be comfortable in. It's not uncommon to give birth totally nude, some women feel more comfortable that way. If not, consider a loose fitting T-shirt.
As for anything else that may be needed, if you'd like to give birth in water (which has been found to be the least traumatic way to give birth) rent a whirl pool.

Its important to make sure that you have provisions in the house, inluding plenty of beer, and snack food that is easy to prepare, like pizza. This is unless you think you will be able to cook meals for your husband, as usual. You had best make sure that the housework is up to date so that he will have clean shirts to wear, and that the ironing is done. Won't hurt to run the vaccuum over the place and do some light dusting. Make sure you are videoing his favourite TV programmes - just in case Baby arrives when they are on. Apart from that - nothing. Its like shelling peas.
