Hi,
No you will not be able to use it as it is no longer considered to be a valid official document. (Because it has expired).
Ask the bank and they should be able to give you a list of what is considered acceptable forms of identification.
Just read GoodTimes answer below. Just to warn you that where i work if a customer completes an online application we process it in the usual way and then telephone or write to the customer asking them to call into a local branch or we provide a SAE so that we can see their identification before completing the application process.

An expired passport is still a valid form of identification, at least in New York and Kansas from what I've personally experienced. You just can't use it to cross international borders. I was able to use my expired passport this year (coincidentally issued and expired the same years as yours) as a valid proof of identification at the DMV. If the DMV accepts an expired passport, its still legal to use at a bar. You won't get in trouble if they turn you down. Not like its a fake ID, its just expired, and its at the discretion of the ID checker whether they will accept it or not.

Skip the bank. Go online, no ID necessary... Interesting isn't it. They just ask you the old questions that you used to only have to answer at the bank. The best part is you will probably get a better deal.
Yet another way, the government screws things up.

An expired passport is considered to be a secondary piece of ID. It can be used in conjunction with a primary form of ID such as a driver's licesnse or birth certificate.

apparently not, they like things in date. they write it all down, with expiry dates etc. the individual would ask their manager, and so on they will all get together in the bank and talk about you. in the end they will come back and say they cant do it.
