I can get my DVD player to play CDs and PC-CDs, but not DVDs and PC-DVDs. I have retsrated a few times, re-installed a DVD software package but to no avail.

Please help, do I need a new DVD player?

Make sure its a DVD drive what you have and not a CD drive.

You might need to search for and download "DVD decoding software" that is compatible with your DVD drive.

Like one person said, first you DO need to be sure that it IS a DVD drive and not just a CD-ROM.

But if it truly is a DVD drive, you need DVD decoding software and some form of software capable of playing DVDs (such as Windows Media Player, Interactual, etc). I would try to find DVD decoding software before you go to the extreme of buying a new DVD drive.

Do you mean A) the play-back of movies etc on DVD, or B) the drive not recognising the disk?

If it's A), it means you need to install some play-back software, such as PowerDVD, which seems to come free with just about any hardware you buy these days.

If the answer is B), chances are that the disks are of poor quality, and so the drive won't recognise them.

Are you sure its a dvd drive? did it play dvd before and recently stop? if so you may need a new drive. A dvd drive doesn't cost a lot these days

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
