Not all denim shrinks, mostly stretch jeans shrink. But since most of my jeans do shrink, I don't put them in the dryer. The dryer is where most clothes shrink.

Jeans may or may not shrink depending on whether or not the demin has been washed down and shrunk as part of the manufacturing process. Still, even some washed jeans may continue to shrink after consumer purchase, depending on level of processing they initially endured. Shrinkage may vary from 2% to more than 10%, the higher percentage being from mostly untreated denim. If you don't want your jeans to shrink, wash them in cold water and hang them to dry, as it is hot water and the heat of the dryer which will cause shrinkage.
