Differential display is a technique used to find genes expressed differentially between two conditions. To do differential display total RNA is extracted from the two treatments, cDNA is synthesized using a radioactive label, and the labelled cDNAs separated by electrophoresis. The researcher then looks for bands (representing individual RNAs) present in one sample that aren't present in the other sample, indicating the differential expression of that particular gene in the two conditions.
